God Is Great

Hello everyone. I know its been a while, but considering the circumstances, I think I am excused from blogging for a while. Hehe. Just a little update of how things are going in our lives.

My last post said that my dad was fourth on the regional list for a liver transplant. Well, that has come and gone, thank God. He was on the list for only 5 (or maybe less) weeks before he got the call. Six hours and many, many answered prayers later, I was told that my dad made it through with minimal complications. He had to go back into surgery two weeks after his transplant to fix some leaks on one of his major veins coming from his liver. But, he's doing fine and just as "dad" as usual. If I ever get the chance to meet the family of the young woman who decided to be an organ donor, I would like to tell them what a blessing she was to my family.

I found out that I have an overactive thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism as they say. The condition is where your thyroid makes hormones and those hormones increase the number of mitochondria in your cells, thereby raising your basal metabolic rate. This explains my excessive weight loss, fatigue and other symptoms. But...theres more. The doctors think my brain is missing a marker thats supposed to tell my thyroid to stop producing thyroxine. They think I may have whats called Graves' Disease. An autoimmune disease. Look it up.

Other than that, we are going great. Keep praying for us, as we all could use it. If you have any prayer requests, leave them in the comment box and we'll lift them up for you. Hope you all are going well. Here are some pics that you might like.

4th on The List

Hello everyone. I just got a phone call from my dad to let us know that he got a phone call from the cancer center at C.U. Hospital. Bad news: it's cancer. Good news: out of 25 people on the transplant list, my dad is 4th. Praise God! So, this means that if the #1 guy (actually, the #1 guy is #25, my dad is #22) gets a new liver or something worse happens to him, the next person on the list gets one, then the next, and so on. It could be a matter of months for my dad. Let's just pray that it happens quickly.

Today is my dad's 50th birthday today. So he got some good news. We all did. Please keep praying for him and my family. I can see God moving in our prayers, so why doubt His power and stop praying?

Good News Among a Series of Bad

Hello everyone. I just thought I would put my thoughts and feelings down before I put up another mini sermon. I've been seeing a lot lately that there are many downfalls and hardships affecting us and those close to us. I do not know why this is happening all at once - although, I can only assume it's Satan trying his hardest to pull us away from the will of God - but I do know that it will only come more and more. Like labor pains of a mother getting ready to give birth to her child, so are the trials of this world: slow and unpredictable at first then faster and faster (albeit none less painful but more) until the fruition of the coming of Jesus.

I've said before that my dad has been diagnosed with cancer. He had to go through a biopsy the other day to give him the medical diagnosis of cancer before he can be put on the transplant list. He had complications after the surgery and, well, it was not good. My grandma went through cataract surgery the other day. My grandpa may have had a stroke. My other grandma had a heart attack and a mini stroke. The list goes on and on.

The good news is my dad made it through and was released from the hospital yesterday. My grandma recovered from her surgery. My grandpa did not have a stroke but the doctors suspected it was a symptom of his Alzheimer's disease. My other grandma pulled through and is regaining strength on her right side and is staying up all day now in spite of her 96 years. As far as the other things, God has really pulled us through and showed His awesome power.

Here is my conclusion: DO NOT DOUBT THE POWER OF PRAYER! By prayer my family was able to make it through their infirmities and troubles with minimal issues. By God answering our prayers, He has taught me an important lesson: that through our prayers we are building on our relationship with Him and as a result, the hardships that come our way are not all that bad anymore. Because He is guiding us through the fire!

Revelation to The News No One Wants to Hear.

I found out the other day that my dad is sick. I don't have the liberty to tell what kind of illness he has, but it isn't the kind of illness that anyone wants to have. Now that I think about it, nobody wants to be sick, unless they are trying to get out of work!

When I found out that my dad is sick, I thought to myself, "well, he's got God on his side. He has nothing to worry about." As true as that is, I find myself as the one worrying. I was okay with him being sick. Now, I have this deep rooted feeling of despair, as if I may never see my dad again. I know that this feeling is not of God, but of the enemy. So what do I do? Who do I ask why?

I've racked my mind trying to figure out why and how but I cannot come up with an answer. Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (NIV). I must give up my burdens to achieve rest from my worrying.

But that one question still remains: Why? No matter how hard I try, I will never wrap my mind around the infinite wisdom and understanding that is possessed by God. My pastor always says, "sometimes you have to serve God with a big question mark." Even though we ask "why God?" we must always know that He has our best interests in mind.

As I sit here trying to come up with verses that may offer up some explanation how my dad and I (and my family) can cope with this revelation, only one verse comes to me. I know that this is God speaking directly to me and my family. 2Corinthians 12:7-10 - "And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me... Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am made strong."

I should rejoice in Christ Jesus knowing that He is greater than illness and any other affliction. In fact, I shouldn't be surprised that something like this is happening. 1 Peter 4:12-13 says, "Beloved, do not think it's strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy." I should count this as a blessing! My family and I are suffering for Christ's sake. [We] can do all things through Christ who strengthens [us] (Philippians 4:13).

This is a testimony to all who are suffering with illness. May God bless you and give you the strength you need!

There still is Hope!

As I put in the title of this post, I feel compelled to claim that there is still hope. I see that many people are feeling lost and not sure where to turn. I see that there are too many things going on all at once that a person may feel that they are loosing control. I see that some think there is no hope at all. I can assure you there is hope.

I feel that there is a calling on my life to preach the Gospel. The word "gospel" is derived from the Old English word "god-spell," which is translated from the Greek "euangelion" (eu- "good," -angelion "message"). Literally, gospel means "good news." Still feeling that there is no hope?

In a world where bad is almost the norm, we feel as though we have nothing to hang on to. I know, I've been there. We turn on the news and what do we see? Media is almost dominated by shootings and robberies and the like while a story where someone is reaching out the the needy is looked over. The Bible says that the end days will be like "the days before the flood" Matthew 24:36-38. So who do we turn to? What is the "good news then?"

Jesus Christ. Simple as that. He is all the hope this world needs and He is all the hope that you need. One of my favorite verses is John 16:33. Jesus says, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." What a powerful scripture!

Life is going to happen. And it will happen a lot. I can't say that things will be fantastic all the time. What I can say is that even though we will have our share of hardships, we must endure. We all are running a race (1 Cor. 9:24-27). Even as we run, we will hit bumps in the road and arrive at obstacles. But what sets us apart from others is how we look at these problems and how we (and if we) turn to Christ. The Apostle Paul says in 2 Cor. 12:7-10 that life hit him hard too. He prayed and asked God to remove this thorn in his flesh, but get this: God says "...My strength is made perfect in weakness." God is the only one that can make you strong when you are weak.

So what can you get from this? God has a plan for you. You will run into hardships, yes, but He doesn't put anything in your path that you cannot overcome! Turn to Jesus because He is the Hope of this world. There is a hope and a path away from discouragement and hopelessness. Rejoice, praise Him, and know that whatever life throws in your path is never too big. If God is for us, who (or what) can be against us, right?

I really believe that life is the allotted time that God gives us to determine how we are going to spend eternity. How will you spend it?

And Finally the Snow!

Trinidad finally got a measurable snowfall.While the Northeast was getting pounded, we stayed nice and cold. But all of it ended up in a great sunny afternoon. Holly and kids came over and we got to playing out in the backyard. I haven't played in the snow like that since I was a kid! We pulled Kambrie around the yard in the sled; she finally got her first taste of snow. She enjoyed it so much she was laughing and squealing the entire time.

So far it's going great. Work is slow and I am enjoying the time I get to spend with my family. I will post more later on. Have a great one!

Hello everyone. I'm home today and it's a great day to be here. It's wanting to snow outside but can't decide if it is going to or not. Colorado weather - hot one moment, snowy the next.

I just thought I would post a little something today since I haven't in a while. My in-laws came over last weekend to have an early CHRISTmas dinner because Leola's dad is working then. Good money. Kambrie got a really neat book that talks when you open it. It's Grandma Sandi reading the story to her and she also got a lullaby CD from Grandpa Barry. It was a good weekend.

We got Kambrie's ears pierced over Thanksgiving weekend. She looks even more adorable (even though I find it impossible to make her more beautiful). She finally made it to three months old on Tuesday! She is finally starting to laugh...so cute! Here is a video (for some reason, it's sideways, but you'll get the picture).

Happy early Halloween everyone! Just wanted to post some pictures of Kambrie in her ladybug costume. We had a "safe trick-or-treat" downtown today. Local businesses handed out candy to kids and parents to promote a safety awareness when the kids are out trick-or-treating. Kambrie got a lot of compliments as well as Leola (both were dressed as ladybugs). Even Alayna is a ladybug!

Welcome Kambrie Rose!

Hello everyone! I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while. We went through a lot in the last couple of months - from not having a computer that worked, moving, losing a car in an accident and to the birth of our daughter. I tell you, it has been exciting!

First off, I want to introduce Kambrie Rose Romero to you all. She was born Sept. 14th, 2010 at 4:24am. She was 6lbs 13oz and measured in at 18 1/2". She is perfect! Alayna got to meet her for the first time yesterday and today. I can tell that she will be a great big sister. Welcome home, Kambrie!

The day Kambrie was born, me and my grandparents were involved in a car accident. Fortunately, both of the parties involved were okay, but I can't say the same for our car. It was totaled out and now we are cruising around in a minivan. Orale. Check out the pictures.

For the moment, life is going great here. Stressful and hard at times, but such is life. I hope you all are blessed and hope to post again soon.

Leola's Graduation

Hello everyone. I have good news to speak of and much to talk about. First off, Leola graduated from her Cosmetology classes today. I'm so proud of her. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was nominated to the Who's Who Among College Students registry. Unfortunately, she was not eligible for a gold cord because she received a certificate and not a degree. I think that is ridiculous considering she STILL completed her courses at the top of her class. But, what can I do? I'm still happy for her.

We went to the doctor's the other day to do a complete targeted fetal ultrasound to make sure the baby is developing correctly. We found out what we are having during the exam (but I'll tell you all on the next post) and also found out that the baby is growing perfectly and was given a clean bill of health. I'll post some pictures to the blog to show you our baby looks like.

Leola's family is in town this week. I'm enjoying spending time with them all. Thats all I have for now, so God bless and talk to you on Sunday.

New Good News

Hey everybody. Sorry I haven't posted anything in a long while. I had to give up one of our computers and our other one is on its last leg...and the one we had to give up is the one I did all my blogging on. My apologies for being so late in putting up a new post.

The biggest and most exciting thing for Leola and I to announce is that we're pregnant again! This one is going extremely well and as of yesterday Leola is now 9 weeks along. We have a doctor's appointment on Thursday and hopefully we'll be able to hear the baby's heartbeat. I'm really excited and so are our parents (on both sides). Nine months can't come any sooner.

Leola is just about done with school. She is now able to apply for the Colorado State Board Exam. She has maybe half of a semester left before she qualifies for New Mexico Exam. She has come so far in such a short time. I'm really proud of her.

My new job that I got back in November is not so new anymore lol. I have been hanging in there and doing what I can get get ahead, and so far, my hard work may be paying off soon. I have to take a test on Friday to see if I'm qualified to become store manager or lead assistant manager. Who knows, maybe I'll pass haha.

I hope all is well with all of you out there. Hopefully I'll stay on top of this blog now that I have a computer that will allow me to get on the internet now. But until next time, God Bless!

Rockin' Dancin'

Tonight was Alayan's dance recital at the middle school. It amazes me at how fast our once tiny baby is growing up into a beautiful ballerina. She was only in two of the 1000 dance sets but she was the best dancer out of them all...including the rap guy.

Turkey Day

Hey hey. It's been a while since I was on last so I thought I would let you all know whats going on up where we're at. I'm into my second full week at my new job and I realize now that it's not all bad. I'm in the rent-to-own business, so the hardest part of my job is that I have to go to customer's homes and ask them when we can expect them in to make a payment. Some people do not like that we go to their homes and "harrass" them. I am a mellow, almost too kind of a person by nature, so I have a hard time dealing with the occasional unruly customer. So far, the benefits of this new job outweigh the negatives. I like to help people so I think this will work out for Leola and I in the long run.

Last Tuesday was my birthday. Hooray. Usually I tell everyone and their grandma's that my birthday is coming up, lol, just to see if I'd get anything from anyone. This year it was a little different. It just seemed like any other day. I almost forgot that it was my birthday until Leola reminded me of it haha. This birthday will be one that I remember because when you spend a special day with someone you love and without gifts that distract you, you're day becomes even more special. But I want to thank all of you who called or sent me a message on Facebook to wish me a happy birthday. Bonus: Leola made me a birthday pie. The best pie I've ever had.

As far as Thanksgiving Day, Leola and I decided to have our own dinner at our place. My grandma invited us over but my aunt and uncle are coming down, and instead of making dinner they are going to order it because they have to work the day before and after the holiday. I'd rather stick to the tradition of cooking, and it would be cheaper for them if we would have our own. I also think its time we start traditions of our own, and still continue with the old.

Hey y'all. I hope that you all had a great weekend doing what you do. Leola and I finally got to take Alayna out trick-or-treating. We had a blast! Alayna dressed up as Tinkerbell and Leola was a cat thing. I got to go as a low-cost vampire. (I bought a $4 cape and dressed in a white shirt and black slacks haha). Our pastors' daughter went with us too, so we really got a lot of loot with us four dressed up.

The weather wasn't that bad for the end of October. It was warm all the way up to sundown, then as the night went on it got a little chill. Alayna ended up wearing her sweater under my sweater at the end of the night, lol, so she ended up getting double the candy for being a champ and fairing the cold breeze to get her pumpkin filled.

All in all, it was a good weekend. The day before, my dad came down from Denver and stayed the night with us. Leola and I really love having our family over. We also got to see my grandma Romero and I wished that I could say that she is doing good. Us going over to see her really lifted her spirits.

Oh yeah. Candy corn is the worst candy that exists and has ever been made, along with the other "flavors" that they make too. Don't eat it. Ever.

Outreaching in Alamosa

I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. Leola and I had the opportunity to go to Alamosa on Saturday to help our sister church, The Door, hand out flyers about revival services that are going on this week. We had a lot of fun up there, and as an added bonus, a lot of the people that opened their doors for us were very receptive to our outreaching.

Pastor and evangelist Robert Polaco is the guest speaker at the church there. This man is a powerful speaker, and a gifted man of God. We had the chance to hear him speak in Las Vegas, NM a month or so ago. He will leave a lasting impression on you if you hear him.

I think in total we covered about 6 blocks and who knows how many houses. But I think I burned off just as many calories walking as I did eating lunch that the church provided. Hopefully revival came to Alamosa today, and hopefully revival will come to Trinidad soon enough.

Didn't think it could happen to us

Hey everybody. Just wanted to let you know how things are going in our neck of the woods. In case you don't already know, my position at work was terminated the other day. I still have a job (barely). I am now out in the gas fields doing maintenance and labor work. I suppose that is better than sitting at home doing nothing.

As far as the "barely" part of my job goes, as of today I am on a will-call basis. And I had my work truck pulled today too. AND the will-call basis goes according to seniority. So, being that I am the relatively new guy on the crew, I will be one of the last they call to go to work.

I guess you can say that I am a little nervous about our future. And I am a little upset that this is happening to us. I worked hard for my reputation, but it goes to show that it's not what you know, but who you know. Leola and I will try to make it work for as long as we can. And once we cant make it work anymore, there is always family in Rio Rancho that will lovingly take us in until we can get back on our feet.

But enough complaining! Leola and I are hosting a bible study at our house on Friday which will be fun and maybe a few new faces will show up. This will be the first time that it is at our place, and the third time that the study has been going on. On Saturday, we are going to Alamosa, CO to help our sister church outreach and pass out flyers. That will be an interesting time for us.

Oh, yeah. We went to see "Where the Wild Things Are" and it was horrible. So where are the wild things at anyway? SUCKVILLE!!! Don't see it. Okay, see it, then get mad for spending two hours to see it and wasting money. LOL laters!

October Already?

Hello everyone. Just wanted to update everyone as to whats going on in Trinidad. My mom had to take my grandma Garduno to the hospital last week. She was having trouble breathing and getting dizzy spells which are not good things. The hospital down here did nothing to help or diagnose her condition, so my mom decided to get after her brothers to take responsibility and take her to the hospital in Pueblo. Turns out she has Sarcoidosis. Apparently this condition causes to enlarge her lymph nodes in her chest and press on her lungs...causing her to loose her breath and get dizzy spells. All it took was an x-ray to figure it out. Good news though, she will be fine.

Leola had a hair show in Denver two weekends ago. I got lucky enough to go with her. She had a great time learning about all the products and equipment that go along with being a cosmetologist. And I got to learn about how expensive being a cosmetologist is. Fortunately, she is good at what she does, so I dont mind getting her all of the good stuff. I didnt get to go to the show personally (because the cost was $100 at the door) but I got to spend time with my Uncle Bob and Aunt Ida. They took us to Casa Bonita for dinner which was cool. The food was so-so, but the cool thing was that the restaurant had an arcade, haunted house, gift store, and cliff divers. Nuts...you couldnt pay me enough to jump off a cliff and into a wading pool.

Last weekend Leola took my mom back to Rio Rancho because she didnt want my mom driving on three (maybe, give or take) hours of sleep in two days. I spent the week by myself. Let me tell you, I thought being alone for a couple of days would be cool; a welcomed break. But I was lost without Leola. I was bored out of my mind! I didnt have my best friend here to talk to me. I went down to pick her up Friday night and spent the weekend with family and check out all the hot-air balloons in the sky. By the way, Leola and mom cheat at Rummy. My dad and I were crushed, but only because we are honest players! Ha!

Snow Day

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but today is actually the last official day of summer. Tomorrow kicks off autumn and what better way to show that its here than to snow. I'm putting these pictures on here because it is a little odd that it snowed this much this soon. Leola is from Michigan so she should be used to it (you would think, right?) but she's not. She hates the snow! Haha....I love it.

Harvester's Rally '09

Hello everyone. Leola and I just got back from Las Vegas, NM today for the Harvester's Rally that the church has annually. What a powerful three days we had down there. There were pastors from all over the country at the rally, and even one from Panama was able to make it. I never really was able to see how urgent the need for God in the world is until this Harvester's.

Aside from hearing from many blessed pastors and feeling renewed, meeting new people was a very cool thing. The opportunity to fellowship and eat lunch and talk and hang out with new friends (ultimately brothers and sisters) was one of the many highlights of the trip.

Leola and I were mentioned as the first couple in our church here in Trinidad to be married, and even had our pictures up on the bulletin board and in a DVD as well. We are very blessed to have so many new friends and a church family that cares for our blossoming marriage.

My Masterpiece

I finally got to finish the cage that I was building for our parrot last night. It took a while to build but the finished result is totally worth the sweat I had put into it. I cannot say that I did all the work myself, though. I have to give thanks to my dad and my wife for helping me when I needed it.

Check it out and let me know what you think. I might have to put another door on it one of these days. I didn't take into consideration that our arms are nowhere near long enough to get to the top of the cage. I guess that's the name of the game lol.

By the way, we finally came up with a name for the parrot. I think Fry fits him well, don't you think?

What a great weekend

We're back from visiting mom and dad down in Rio Rancho. It was really nice to get away from the monotony here at home. One reason we went down to visit is because we had found out last Tuesday that Leola miscarried. Mom had suggested that we go down to stay to keep our minds off of the bad news. It worked. We got to hang out with the family, and I (PJ) got to fabricate most of the cage for our parrot. Even though we didn't do much to occupy our time, spending time with family is so much better than doing something that is distracting.

There are a lot of prospects for a young couple such as us in Rio Rancho. Leola could finish school down there for her cosmetology licence and I could possibly start an apprenticeship for HVAC or even go back to school. We have a lot of thinking and praying to do before we make a sure decision.

Just want to thank you all for your prayers. It really helped us through our hard time dealing with the miscarriage. But keep us in your prayers still. We will be trying to add to our family again soon!

Amazing Doscovery

Leola and I were going to our car to pick up Alayna for the day when I heard a sqwak. I looked up and saw a parrot flying towards us. Strange thing was, he flew right to Leola and I without fear and landed on our car! I think this parrot was a pet that escaped. So we have a temporary pet until we can find his real owner.

If anyone out there has any idea what kind of parrot this is, please let us know. And if anyone has a cage that we can use, let us know as well. Have a great Sunday!

New Addition!

So Leola and I have some great news to you all. We are going to have a baby! I'm really excited and nervous, and Leola is just ecstatic. She will make a great mother. We found out that we are going to be parents a couple of weeks ago, and as far as we can tell, Leola is about 6 weeks along. Nine months cannot come soon enough!

Keep us in your prayers for the first trimester. We will keep you posted and up to date with the good news!

Finally Friday! I (PJ) have a Trinidaires concert tomorrow in Raton so my Saturday is pretty much shot. Leola is coming so the performance will not be too boring. She can be my page turner. The concert is some sort of fund raiser for the church down there. Wish me (and Leola) luck. Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday

Today is Leola's dads' birthday. I dont want to divulge his age, but we did get to talk to him today. He is in a great mood aside from having to work today, but he is always fun to talk to.

Tomorrow Leola is giving her mom a perm. She is turning out to be an accomplished cosmetologist.
